INDIA MOVING TOWARDS A GAS-BASED ECONOMY

INDIA MOVING TOWARDS A GAS-BASED ECONOMY

Natural Gas (NG) currently meets 6% of India’s primary energy needs against a global average of 24-25%. The government wants to raise this gas usage share in the energy basket to 15% by 2030 leading to direct and indirect employment, spur economic growth.

NG s is a new age fuel with only one carbon and four hydrogen atoms per molecule, it has the lowest carbon to hydrogen ratio, hence it burns completely, making it the cleanest of fossil fuels. It is a fuel for modern-day industrial society because it is efficient, non-polluting, and relatively economical.

Natural gas has various uses including industrial for thermal energy output, heating applications such as boiler fuel for raising steam, furnaces for heating and baking applications, for cooking food in homes, in automotive as a non-polluting fuel, and for generation of electricity  by industries through the use of Gensets

In India, the Natural Gas Pipeline Infrastructure connects various gas sources to different gas markets to meet the existing/future natural gas demand in various industries across the board. The gas pipeline infrastructure has not only developed the much-needed industrialization but all brought socio-economic changes in the major regions from where the pipeline passes. Pipeline transportation of gas offers a safe, economic, and environmentally sound alternative to most other modes of energy transport.

The responsibility to increase the gas eco-system is essentially being handed over to the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). They have been extensively increasing the pipeline network to over 34,500KMS, connecting gas sources to major demand centers, removing regional imbalance in access to natural gas. Over the years, India has grown and developed a robust natural gas pipeline infrastructure with a capacity to move 310 MMSCMD. The local distribution is being carried by the City Gas Distributors (CGD) who help in the push of clean fuel by building PNG and CNG networks in cities within their license areas.

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has directed various local pollution boards to enforce the usage of clean energy by imposing heavy fines and to issue closure notices to all industrial units that have not switched to piped natural gas (PNG).

Allset Energy, is a clean energy business in Gurugram, India that aims to help industries switch over gas by replacing highly polluting diesel Gensets used for standby electricity supply with clean and cost-effective Natural Gas Gensets & Hybrid Fuel Systems.
